Goodrich Scholarship Program
Memories of Goodrich
The whole Goodrich experience was something that will always resonate with me. The faculty always treated me as a regular student, even though I was an older student in my 40's. Fellow Goodrich students treated me as one of their own and did not judge my point of view even if it was different than their outlook. Whenever I am asked where I graduated, I proudly tell them I graduated from UNO as a Goodrich graduate! The day I was told to pick up my Goodrich cord when I graduated. You would have thought I won the lottery, I was just SO happy! --Maria M
The Goodrich scholarship-that time of my life I will never forget. Being able to not worry about tuition and to leave with my degree debt free besides a small loan for studying abroad made my life after school so freeing. The staff really cares and has cared even after being a Goodricher. --Leah W
Goodrich was my second home during my undergrad program. I found myself and became a strong leader in many of the campus programs at UNO. I helped create an organization for students in the Goodrich program which allowed the sense of community that was created in the classes, to extend in campus life at UNO. I learned how to become a better person in the program and until this day I remember so many of the important aspects of the program. I have carried these into my career as an educator in our community and in many of the volunteer organizations I volunteer in. Goodrich taught me about who I am and what I believe in. --Kelly O
Goodrich gave me the resources and confidence I needed to be successful personally and professionally. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to be a Goodrich scholar. --Jon Y
The impact Goodrich made on my college experience was Awesome! I believe I was even the first student athlete (football) that was in the program at the time. Goodrich allowed me to strengthen my written, oral and study skills to maintain a high level of learning while attending UNO. I was also unique, in that I received the Goodrich Scholarship after my first year of college. All in all, we were challenged academically but also supported in our personal lives to push forward and continue success in and out of the classroom. --James J
Without Goodrich I would not have attended college. The Goodrich program transformed my life and allowed me to pave a new path for my children to follow. Goodrich gave me a sense of community from the moment I stepped onto campus. I do not have one specific memory to share, but will never forget the feeling of belongingness the program provided. --Lequisha S
It was great to start with a small cohort. I also worked closely with my Goodrich advisor, Mike Carroll, I think was his name. there was a time that I had to take a break from college. I was able to get my scholarship back. I was so very grateful!!! Now I am a kindergarten teacher. I am trying to make a difference in the lives of young students, while encouraging them to be life long learners. --Kristy B
My biggest impact as a Goodrich Scholar was the multiple writing assignments which were a requirement for the program. I have been praised by my superiors and colleagues for my epic writing skills to detail. I give all credit to every professor, who demanded nothing but excellence in the Goodrich program. Dr. Smith's expectations never wavered even in my weakest moments. --Joyce B
Every career success I've experienced in my life was made possible by the education and support I received through the Goodrich scholarship program. I was a non-traditional student in my early 20's working in a minimum wage job with no clear direction in life. My Goodrich "family" gave me the welcoming support and genuine care that motivated me to study diligently, and not give up when the going got tough. Today, I work as a Human Resources Director for a large, successful company in Montana and feel like I'm living a dream. Thank you, Goodrich, for believing in me when I didn't believe in myself. Whether it was a place to be, fellowship with students, or faculty and staff, I always felt supported as a Goodricher. These relationships made me feel I belonged, reinforced to me the skills and intelligence I cultivated, and rooted me in a rich community. I was able to carry this confidence forward so I felt empowered to reach for any opportunity and choose my vocation; actively shaping my life.
