Memories of Goodrich

I would not be where I am today without Goodrich. I didn't even think I was able to go to college because my family didn't have the money to pay for school. Not only Goodrich allowed me to complete college, but to encourage and push me to succeed and graduate with honors. The faculty and staff were always supportive and helpful; along the way I also made life long friends. Using the experiences I gained with Goodrich, I continued to achieve my goals and dreams in graduate school and my current job (I am an emergency medicine physician assistant x 11 years) . I have moved and traveled to many places, Goodrich prepared me well in all situations to connect with multicultural population. I am grateful and proud everyday that I am a Goodrich scholar. --S Jun Meng

While in the Goodrich Program I felt heard, important, and loved. The professors were amazing and helpful! Everyone got to know you, the office was an amazing area to study and hang out with other peers. I loved the diversity of it all and appreciate receiving the scholarship. --Sarahí RyV

The Goodrich Program provided me the opportunity to come out of my shell. I quickly identified my strengths and my weaknesses and I learned how to leverage one and dramatically improve the other. Being in the university setting helped me grow in almost every way. This would not have been possible without the Goodrich Program. --Patrick F

Goodrich taught me the language of Higher Education: how I should present myself/how to show up for classes, how to engage professors, how to take essay exams, how to write scholarly, and how to utilize campus resources. The cohort experience formed a necessary community of support that allowed me to persist through degree completion. --Nadira FR

Before getting the Goodrich scholarship, I didn't really know if I was going to attend college or not. No one in my family had graduated college to that point and I was kind of feeling overwhelmed about what to do post high-school. When I was offered the Goodrich scholarship, I just remember having that feeling completely wiped away because I felt like I had a place to be.
The entire organization is extremely attentive throughout the first couple of years and I know I would not be where I am today without their leadership and attentiveness. One memory doesn't stand out, but I do remember stopping by Todd Richardson's office often just to sit down and chat about classes and life and I'm really thankful for the impact that he had on me. --Mike L

Goodrich was my home during college. I was going through so many social changes outside of college and it was scary. Goodrich faculty, especially Keenan, tried so hard to keep me on a straight path to stay in class and stay focused. While I finished my first 2 years, I ultimately took a break from college. However, I've still maintained all of these connections with my peers from Goodrich and the experience of the program has been irreplaceable. I returned to UNO after having my first child and graduated shortly after having my second. Goodrich taught me life and education skills that kept me going to finally achieve my big goal of a bachelor's degree to better my family's future. Coming into the Goodrich suite to study, being involved in GO, Dr. Troy's Lifespan course and Dr. Hewins-Maroney's courses left big impacts on me as a student. I loved walking into the office and seeing Patty every day as well! I'm honored to have been a scholar. --Savannah G

My experiences and lessons learned as a Goodricher will stick with me for a lifetime. The courses and people I met impacted me tremendously. I learned to become culturally competent, a characteristic essential in my professional and personal philosophy. I learned to advocate for diversity and chose to pursue a field supporting a diverse population of individuals. Goodrich faculty continued to support me through my graduate studies. I am incredibly thankful for the Goodrich Scholarship Program and proud to be an alumni. "Once a Goodricher, always a Goodricher!" I loved working in the Goodrich suite as an office assistant alongside the incredible faculty and staff. I also loved waffle Wednesdays and getting to know Goodrichers! --Sara K

It was truly a blessing to receive the Goodrich Scholarship. I was able to attend undergraduate school on scholarship, which allowed me to only take out a small loan to help with living on campus. I enjoyed having the required classes the first two years because it helped me form relationships with peers and I was able to feel comfortable in those classes. --N. Williams

The Goodrich program allowed me to leave college debt free and for that I will forever be grateful. I also appreciated that I was able to have a community of peers at school since I didn't know many people and ultimately, gave me the confidence to embrace my cultural heritage fully. --M Yoo
